Collins named Fastpitch News Player of the Week

SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University junior LeAnne Collins was almost impossible to retire at the Capital Athletic Conference softball tournament last week and was named the Fastpitch News Division III Player of the Week for her efforts.

Collins went 7-for-8 in the two games, beginning with a 3-for-4 performance, with three singles, and following up with a 4-for-4 game. In the four-hit effort against York College of Pennsylvania, Collins had two doubles and her third home run of the year, while scoring three times and driving in a pair of runs.

This season, Collins leads the team and ranks sixth in the nation with a .527 batting average, while her 69 hits are third nationally. She ranks in the top 30 in the country in five other categories.

Collins and the Sea Gulls close out their regular season this Saturday, April 29 at Sea Gull Softball Stadium, hosting Catholic University of America in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
