LOUISVILLE – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced its all-region teams and Salisbury University juniors LeAnne Collins and Annie Pietanza represented the softball team with first-team honors.
Pietanza was chosen as the first-team second baseman for the Atlantic-Region Team, while Collins was one of three outfielders in the Atlantic Region after both of the Sea Gulls were recently named to the All-Capital Athletic Conference first team and Collins was named the CAC Player of the Year.
Pietanza was the team's top power hitter this season, with a team-high 50 runs batted in and a team-high-tying seven home runs while scoring 25 runs and batting .414 on the 2017 season. Pietanza was also the hardest Sea Gull to strikeout this season, going down on strikes just five times in 128 at-bats.
Collins continues to bring in awards following a season in which she led with team with a .537 batting average and a .787 slugging percentage thanks to 21 extra-base hits. Her seven triples led the team, while her 11 doubles were second to Pietanza's 14. Collins also hit three home runs and drove in 30 runs while scoring a team-best 48.
Collins and Pietanza are now eligible for consideration for the NFCA All-American teams to be announced later this month.
