FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference released its 2018 preseason coaches' poll for softball on Friday and Salisbury University has been picked to finish second by the league's coaches.
The Sea Gulls earned 40 points in the poll, along with one first-place vote, while Christopher Newport University garnered 48 points and six first-place votes to take the top spot. Frostburg State University rounds out the top-three positions, with 36 points and the final first-place vote.
Salisbury returns a pair of National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Americans, including CAC Player of the Year LeAnne Collins for the 2018 season. Collins was a first-team All-American in 2017 as a junior, while classmate Annie Pietanza was named a third-team All-American.
During their senior year in 2018, the pair will look to lead the Sea Gulls to the program's 20th CAC title this year. The season begins next Saturday, February 24 when Salisbury will host the Sea Gull Early Bird Tournament. The Sea Gulls kickoff play in that event against Keystone College at 10 a.m.
