VIDEO: Softball tops Cortland, 4-2
The No. 17 Salisbury University softball team topped the State University of New York at Cortland on Friday afternoon at Sea Gull Softball Stadium. Salisbury was able to get a run in the second inning when Kaleigh Edwards reached on a single, then with two outs, and runners at the corners Fran Cuttitta got herself caught in a rundown so Edwards could score, scampering home and doing so just before the tag was applied to Cuttitta. In the sixth, with the game tied 2-2, Emily Allen started things with a double to right-center field and advance to third on a groundout. Amelia Trotter’s comebacker resulted in a Cortland error, bringing Allen home for the 3-2 lead. Sami Mumford drove this double to left field to bring home the insurance run. The added run was not needed as senior Shannon Powell allowed just one base runner in the seventh, with Dakotah Fraley snaring this line drive to end the victory for Salisbury. The Sea Gulls return to action on Saturday, hosting The College of New Jersey for a doubleheader, beginning at noon.
