YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference office released weekly honors for the week ending March 18. Salisbury University track and field junior Alison Schwartz earned conference recognition as she was named runner of the week for the first time this season.
Schwartz turned in an impressive performance over the weekend at the 49er Classic hosted by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Schwartz captured a fourth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run finishing only behind two runners from the University of Illinois and an unattached runner, Zola Budd Pieterse, a former Olympic runner.
Schwartz posted a time of 38:29.99 which shattered the former Salisbury school record set back in 1997 by Vicki Huchko, who posted a time 38:44.5. It was also Schwartz's first time competing in the event.
Salisbury and Schwartz will return to action March 30 – April 1 at the Colonial Relays hosted by the College of William & Mary.
