NEW ORLEANS – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its 2017-18 USTFCCCA Scholar Teams of the Year and All-Academic teams on Thursday morning.
For the second consecutive year, the Sea Gulls were honored by the organization as the women's squad was named to the list of All-Academic teams. The team posted a cumulative grade-point average of 3.27 during the 2017-18 academic year to earn the honor.
For a team to be in contention for the Scholar Team of the Year, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.
A total of 291 teams were recognized by USTFCCCA including 185 women's teams and 106 men's teams. Williams College and George Fox University spilt the women's honors as Williams claimed the indoor title and George Fox earned the outdoor honor. The Ephs earned their first Women's Indoor Scholar Team of the Year award in program history. Williams, which finished the indoor and outdoor seasons with a cumulative GPA of 3.57, was second in the team standings behind University of Massachusetts at Boston.
George Fox shared the national title in the outdoor season, but took home the Women's Outdoor Scholar Team of the Year honor. The Bruins, who finished the 2018 indoor and outdoor season with a cumulative GPA of 3.43, totaled 44 points at the national championships in La Crosse, Wisconsin this past season.
