Farley, Van Gieson pick up CAC weekly honors

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly track & field awards on Tuesday and Salisbury University's Jamie Farley and Michael Van Gieson were each honored.

Farley, a senior, was named the league's Women's Track Athlete of the Week, after her performance at the Eastern Shore Challenge, hosted at the SU Track & Field Complex. Farley garnered three top-five finishes and one new school record as part of the 4x100-meter relay team. In the relay Farley helped the team capture a third-place finish but more importantly post a time of 48.42 seconds to break the school record of 48.87 seconds. Individually, Farley placed third in the 200-meter dash coming home in 25.77 seconds while finishing first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.74 seconds.

This is the second consecutive week that Farley has been honored by the league and third time during the 2018-19 academic year that she has picked up a CAC weekly award.

Van Geison, a junior, was named the Men's Track Athlete of the Week, after earning two top-10 finishes over the weekend, starting his day with a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter dash coming home in a time of 22.51 seconds. He then outdueled two other teammates to take home second in the 400-meter dash crossing the finish line in a mark of 48.76 seconds. That time currently ranks Van Gieson 18th in Division III. 

The Sea Gulls will be back in action this Saturday at the Captain's Classic at Christopher Newport University, beginning at 9 a.m.
