GREENWOOD, Ind. – The College Sports Information Directors of America released its 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's and Women's Track & Field / Cross Country Teams on Tuesday afternoon. Salisbury University had two athletes earn recognition from CoSIDA as both Conner Masteran and Sydney Ruckel each were among the list of honorees for outstanding performances both in and out of the classroom.
Masteran, a senior chemistry major, posted a 3.93 grade point average during his time as an athlete for the Salisbury track & field program. The Hampstead, Maryland native has also earned recognition from the Capital Athletic Conference being named to the CAC All-Academic Team.
Masteran will finish he career in the maroon and gold as the owner of two indoor records in both the 3,000-meter run and 5,000-meter run. He also owns the outdoor track & field record in the 3,000-meter run, which he set earlier this season.
Ruckel, a sophomore, has accumulated a grade point average of 4.00 as an exercise science major while representing the maroon and gold throughout the entire academic year. The Mt. Airy, Maryland native was also recognized as a freshman by the CAC as she was named to the All-Academic Team.
Ruckel rounded out her sophomore season capturing eight top-five finishes in track & field, including two victories at the 2019 CAC outdoor championships in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs. She also finished no lower than 25th four times during the cross country season, which included a 24th-place finish at the CAC championships that was good enough to qualify her for the 2018 NCAA Division III Mideast Region Cross Country Championships.
Both Masteran and Ruckel will now advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot. Winners for the prestigious academic honor will be announced in June.
