SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team concluded its regular season with an 86-69 win over visiting Southern Virginia University in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Salisbury (15-10, 10-8 CAC) honored its three seniors, Mary McDonagh, Morgan Grubb, and Paige Bryce, before the start of the game. All three players scored in double-figures to lift the Sea Gulls over Southern Virginia (12-14, 5-14 CAC).
McDonagh helped the Sea Gulls jump out to a huge first quarter lead with 11 points, five assists, and three rebounds, giving Salisbury a 30-10 lead after the opening frame. McDonagh finished with a career-high 24 points, going 6-for-10 from three-point range.
The maroon and gold continued to stretch the lead in the second quarter by shooting the lights out. Salisbury took a 53-23 lead at halftime after shooting 55.6 percent from the field and 88.9 percent from three-point range, going 8-for-9, in the first half.
The final deficit of 17 was as close as Southern Virginia could get in the second half. Salisbury forced 25 turnovers on the afternoon, with Grubb contributing with four steals. Grubb added 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting and six assists.
Bryce pulled down eight rebounds to go along with 10 points, while Dalina Julien came off the bench to chip in with 10 points and three assists.
Salisbury has clinched the fifth seed for the CAC tournament and will play the No. 4 seed on Tuesday, February 20. A start time and location will be announced once the information becomes available.
