Nieves, Falcone tabbed on watched list for Player of the Year

BALTIMORE, Md. – The lacrosse season is upon us once again and the accolades are already beginning to accumulate for one of the nation's best programs. Inside Lacrosse Face-off Yearbook released its list of preseason players of the year to watch and Salisbury University lacrosse senior Gabbi Nieves and junior Gianna Falcone were among the list of honorees.

Nieves, a Centreville, Virginia native, returns to the midfield following a prolific 2016 season that earned her multiple accolades including a First-Team All-CAC selection, an IWLCA First-Team All-Region selection, and was named an IWLCA First-Team All-American. In 21 games last season Nieves caused 27 turnovers, earned 18 draw controls, converted nine assists, and scored a staggering 41 goals for a total of 50 points for the maroon and gold.

Last season Falcone saw 1,039 minutes between the pipes and made 113 saves while posting a .526 save percentage to help the Sea Gulls to a record of 18-3. Falcone's efforts helped the maroon and gold go 8-0 in Capital Athletic Conference play and earn their 16th CAC championship, as well as advancing to the NCAA regional final for the 17th time in program history.

Salisbury opens the 2017 season at home at Sea Gull Stadium on February 18, where they will take on the Mustangs of Stevenson University. The game is set to begin at 3 p.m.
