VIDEO: Women's Lacrosse CAC Championship vs. Mary Washington
The No. 3 Salisbury University women’s lacrosse team defeated No. 8 University of Mary Washington 12-7 on Saturday to capture its 16th straight and 18th overall Capital Athletic Conference championship. Krissy Murphy tallied the first three goals of the game for Salisbury as the two teams exchanged goals throughout the first half. All three of Murphy’s goals came unassisted. The senior added two assists to total five points on the day. Courtney Fegan notched a team-high four goals, including two in each half. Fegan started the 5-0 run in the second half that put the Sea Gulls up 10-6 with just under eight minutes to go. Fegan and the Sea Gulls outshot Mary Washington 31-15 in the game. Allie Hynson had a strong second half with three goals, including two that came during the 5-0 run and one that put Salisbury up 11-7. Two of Hynson’s three goals came on free position shots, where the Sea Gulls were 4-of-7 on the afternoon. Gianna Falcone made seven saves on 14 shots on goal to earn the win in net for Salisbury. Falcone also caused one turnover and collected three groundballs. Salisbury caused 14 turnovers in the game while forcing the Eagles into 20 turnovers in all. With the win, Salisbury earns the CAC’s automatic bid in the NCAA tournament. The selection show for the tournament will be held Sunday night, while the Sea Gulls will begin tournament play next weekend.
