VIDEO: Women's Lacrosse CAC Semifinals vs. Christopher Newport
The third-ranked and top-seeded Salisbury University women’s lacrosse team defeated fourth-seeded Christopher Newport University 18-9 in the Capital Athletic Conference semifinals on Wednesday afternoon, advancing to their 16th straight CAC championship game. Gabrielle Mongno led the Sea Gull attack, scoring five goals on the day. All five of Mongno’s goals came in the first half, including two on free position shots and two from Krissy Murphy. Mongno scored four goals in the opening 13 minutes to help Salisbury out to a 10-1 lead. Murphy tallied eight assists in the game, giving her a team-high 36 on the season. Murphy also added a goal to give her nine points on the afternoon. Allie Hynson chipped in two goals, including one from Murphy and one on a free position shot. Hynson added five draw controls, helping Salisbury come up with 11 more draw controls than the Captains. With the win, Salisbury advances to the CAC championship game on Saturday, May 5. The Sea Gulls will host the University of Mary Washington at 1 p.m.
