VIDEO: Women's Lacrosse NCAA Third Round vs. Denison
The second-ranked Salisbury University women’s lacrosse team rolled to a 16-4 victory over visiting Denison University in the third round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium. After a Denison goal to start the game, Salisbury scored the final six of the first half to take a 6-1 lead into the break. Six different players scored goals in the first half, led by Krissy Murphy’s three points on one goal and two assists. Murphy added her second of the game two and a half minutes into the second half to cap the 8-0 Salisbury run and extend the lead to 8-1. After the Big Red ended their nearly 29 minute scoring drought to make it 8-3, Dana King notched her second marker of the day to start another 8-0 Sea Gull run. Seven different players scored during the rally, as Emma Skoglund, Emily McQuay, and Gabrielle Mongno each tallied their second goals of the game. The Salisbury defense came up big, forcing Denison into 22 total turnovers while causing 12 of them. It is the seventh game this season in which the Sea Gulls have allowed four or fewer goals. With the win, Salisbury advances to the regional final to face Trinity College on Sunday, May 20. The Sea Gulls and Bantams will begin play at Sea Gull Stadium at 1 p.m. for the right to advance to championship weekend in Salem, Virginia.
