Strobel ties career-high in assists; Salisbury rolls to 18-3 victory

SALISBURY, Md. – The fifth ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team finished its three game home stand with a victory over Plymouth State University, 18-3, on Friday afternoon.

Alexis Strobel turned in a solid offensive performance, recording a team-best and tying a career-high six assists in the contest. It marks just the second time in her career she has accomplished the feat, with the last time coming against Wesley College in a 20-4 victory on March 27, 2018.

The Sea Gulls (6-1) used a strong opening 30 minutes to take a commanding 14-2 lead into the break. Overall, six different members of the maroon and gold found the back of the net in the first half, with three players finishing off at least one assist from Strobel.

Salisbury opened the game on a 6-0 run in which Strobel recorded three consecutive assists in a span of two and a half minutes. After Taylor Poore, who finished the game with two goals, gave Salisbury a 1-0 lead, Strobel assisted both Gabby Mongno and Courtney Fegan to push the advantage to 4-0.

After Plymouth State (0-3) cut into the lead, 6-1, the Sea Gulls closed out the half on an 8-1 run, which saw Strobel register three more assists by connecting with Mongno and Fegan one more time each. Mongno finished the day with three goals and one assist, while Fegan recorded two goals and an assist.

Strobel becomes just the second player to finish a game with six assists since last season, as Krissy Murphy also accomplished the feat last season in a 20-8 victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland on April 25, 2018.

The Sea Gulls forced the Panthers into 24 turnovers as 11 different players caused a turnover for Salisbury, while the maroon and gold limited Plymouth State to just seven shots in the game.

Salisbury returns to action on Wednesday, March 20 when it travels to Glassboro, New Jersey to take on Cortland State University in a neutral site showdown with the Red Dragons. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
