YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly women's soccer awards and Salisbury University goalie Michelle Conrad was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week. This is the first time this year that a Sea Gull has been recognized with a conference award.
Conrad posted two shutouts this week, continuing her impressive scoreless streak that now sits at 321:11. The Smithtown, N.Y., native made five saves in a double-overtime, 1-0 win over Stevenson University this past Wednesday. The sophomore was in net for all 109:31 of that contest and then carried over that performance against Marymount (Va.) University on Saturday. Conrad had to stop only two shots, playing more than 85 minutes, during a 3-0 win over the Saints.
Since allowing a goal at the 69:48 mark against Christopher Newport University, nearly two weeks ago, on Wednesday, Sept. 19, the sophomore has not allowed an opponent to score. That span includes the remaining 35:55 against CNU, in a double-overtime win, and shutouts against Mary Washington University, Stevenson and Marymount. For the season, Conrad has posted five solo shutouts.
Conrad and the Sea Gulls are next in action this Wednesday, at Virginia Wesleyan College. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. Salisbury is next at home this Saturday, welcoming Frostburg State University to the SU Soccer Complex. That match is slated to begin at noon.
