Lucas, Knussman pick up weekly CAC honors

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly women's soccer award winners on Monday and Salisbury University seniors Ruthie Lucas and Hope Knussman each earned honors.

Salisbury won twice last week, with Lucas scoring three times and adding an assist to be named the league's Offensive Player of the Week. The Ellicott City, Maryland native put home two goals and an assist in the regular-season finale at Wesley College as the Sea Gulls won 6-0, and added her second game winner of the week in the opening round of the CAC playoffs, during a 3-0 win against Penn State University-Harrisburg on Saturday.

Knussman was responsible for both shutouts, recording 11 saves in just over 135 minutes of action and was named the CAC's co-Defensive Player of the Week. Against Harrisburg in the tournament game, she notched 10 saves, eight of which came after halftime as the Lions outshot Salisbury 18-14 in the contest.

This is Knussman's third time earning the award this year, while Lucas has now picked up the weekly honor twice.

Following their opening-round win in the CAC tournament, the Sea Gulls travel to No. 2 Frostburg State University for a conference semifinal match on Wednesday, November 1, beginning at 6 p.m.
