Video: Women's soccer falls to Catholic
The Salisbury Women’s soccer team hosted Catholic University of America in a non-conference matchup on Saturday, September 16, at Sea Gull Soccer Stadium. Salisbury’s first goal came in the 6th minute off a corner kick set up by Lydia Narum. Kayla Homeyer was on the receiving end and directed the kick past the goalkeeper to level the score at 1-1. Forward Ruthie Lucas scored her first goal of the season in the 24th minute. After receiving a pass from Dana Gordon, Lucas broke past the defender guarding before drilling a clean shot over the head of the goalkeeper to bring the score to 2-2. The Sea Gulls took the lead for the first time in the game in the 31st minute. It was Gordon once again setting up her teammate, but this time Megan Brady was on the receiving end to redirect the pass down low and into the net for Salisbury’s first lead of the match at 3-2. Lucas scored her second goal of the match in the 47th minute to double the Sea Gull lead to 4-2. However, the Cardinals grabbed control and rallied from the two-goal deficit to defeat the Sea Gulls 5-4 The team opens up Capital Athletic Conference play when they travel to Southern Virginia University on Saturday, September 23rd, to take on the Knights. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
