The third-seeded Salisbury University women’s soccer team hosted sixth-seeded Penn State Harrisburg in a first-round capital athletic Conference tournament matchup at Sea Gull Soccer Stadium on Saturday, October 28. The team’s leading scorer, Ruthie Lucas, tallied the game’s opening goal on a pass from Dana Gordon that split the defense before being redirected by Lucas into the right corner of the net. The Lions had an opportunity to answer in the 33rd minute when Erica Hile received an upfield pass from her teammate. Hile’s shot ended up soaring just high enough to hit the crossbar and ricocheted back into play. Another Lions attempt a few plays later came on a free kick that dropped down in front of Hope Knussman, but the goalkeeper was first to the ball to foil the scoring opportunity. A rare double-assisted goal doubled up the lead for the sea gulls in the 36th minute. A Jaime Tacka Pass turned into an Ellen Anderson Header before Brooke Rossiter received and pushed the ball into the back of the net. Juliana Looney capped off the afternoon with a goal of her own in the 85th minute. Looney stayed with her own rebounded shot and made the redirect to tally her first goal of the season. With the win, the Sea Gulls move on to the conference semifinals at two-seeded Frostburg State University on Wednesday, November 1.
