Video: Women's soccer vs York
The women’s soccer team hosted its third contest in eight days on Sunday, October 15th against York College of Pennsylvania. The Spartans came to town looking to spoil the Sea Gulls’ five-game conference win streak, their longest since 2011. There was little action in the first half, as each team looked to feel the other out. Salisbury controlled possession and managed a few shots, but weren’t able to capitalize on any of their opportunities. Kayla Homeyer almost put her team on top ten minutes into the second half off a corner kick, but the ball ended up sailing just high of the net. Shortly after, York began to find some opportunities to score, but Hope Knussman was her usual self, and refused to let anything get by her…even recovering in time after falling to the turf during a foul kick to make the save and keep the score nill nill. Things looked to be heading to overtime as time began to expire, but in the waning minutes Salisbury would make their move. Ruthie Lucas delivered a corner kick from the left side that dropped in front of Brooke Rossiter, who deflected the ball into the right side of the name for the game-winning goal. The Sea Gulls held on to defeat York, 1-0. The team returns to action on Wednesday, October 18th when they host rival Christopher Newport University for the right to first place in the Capital Athletic Conference. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
