FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly awards for women's soccer on Monday afternoon and Salisbury University freshman goalkeeper Regan Benton was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week.
Benton helped lead the Sea Gulls to a 3-0 win over Shenandoah University and a 1-1 draw against The Catholic University of America over the weekend.
In Saturday's victory over the Hornets, Benton picked up both her first collegiate win and shutout. The only ball that found its way past her in Sunday's draw with the Cardinals was on a penalty kick. Benton combined to make 11 saves on 12 shots for a .916 save percentage.
Benton and the Sea Gulls are back in action on Wednesday, September 19 when they host the Rutgers University – Newark Scarlet Raiders at Sea Gull Soccer Stadium beginning at 4 p.m.
