Video: Women's Soccer vs. Salem
The Salisbury University women’s soccer team kicked off its 2018 season on Friday, August 31st when it hosted the Salem College Spirits on day one of the annual Salisbury University Classic at Sea Gull Soccer Stadium. A shot by forward Brooke Rossiter just over nine minutes into the game looked like it had a chance to become the first score of the season for the Sea Gulls, but the ball hung just a little too high and hit off the crossbar and back into play. The maroon and gold finally broke the nill-nill tie ten minutes later when forward Julianna Boller finished off a play that began with a corner kick. The ball initially rebounded off the goalkeeper before being redirected into the back of the net for the score. The Sea Gulls would go up 2-0 just before the half on another corner kick that found the head of Forward Julie Venere for a redirect past the goalkeeper. Tayah Rendina earned the assist on the kick. Starting Goalkeeper Emma Hill earned the win as she and Regan Benton combined to collect the shutout victory. The team returns to action on Tuesday, September 4th when it hosts Virginia Wesleyan University. The game is slated to kick off at 4 p.m.
