Sep 29, 2018

THE SALISBURY UNIVERSITY WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM OPENED CAPITAL ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAY ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON WHEN IT HOSTED THE FROSTBURG STATE UNIVERSITY BOBCATS AT SEA GULL SOCCER STADIUM. THE BOBCATS JUMPED OUT TO AN EARLY LEAD, SCORING ON THEIR FIRST SHOT OF THE GAME OFF A FREE KICK. GWEN SHEMM’S KICK FOUND THE HEAD OF TEAMMATE DANIELLE FERRIS FOR THE REDIRECT AND THE SCORE. THE SEA GULLS HAD TWO GREAT CHANCES TO EQUALIZE THE SCORE IN THE FIRST HALF, FIRST ON THIS SHOT BY ALLY GOETZ AND AGAIN TEN MINUTES LATER WITH A SHOT BY JULIANNA BOLLER, BUT BOTH TIMES BOBCATS GOALKEEPER RHIANNA LADEN MADE TIMELY SAVES TO HOLD THE LEAD. FROSTBURG STATE DOUBLED ITS LEAD EARLY IN THE SECOND HALF ON ITS FIRST CORNER KICK OF THE GAME. AGAIN IT WAS DANIELLE FERRIS WHO RECEIVED TEAMMATE BROOKE SHEHADE’S KICK AND FINISHED WITH A DEFLECTION INSIDE THE NEAR POST. SALISBURY CUT THE LEAD IN HALF LATE IN THE GAME WHEN JULIANA LOONEY TOOK A REBOUND FROM TEAMMATE LYDIA NARUM’S FREE KICK AND REDIRECTED THE BALL INTO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE NET, BUT IT WOULD BE THE ONLY TALLY OF THE GAME FOR THE SEA GULLS WHO FELL TO THE BOBCATS 2-1. THE TEAM RETURNS TO ACTION WHEN IT TRAVELS TO PENN STATE HARRISBURG NEXT SATURDAY TO TAKE ON THE LIONS. KICKOFF IS SET FOR 2 P.M.
