Video: Women's Soccer vs Rutgers - Newark
The Salisbury University women’s soccer team returned home on Wednesday, September 19 to take on the Rutgers University – Newark Scarlet Raiders. The Sea Gulls scored their first goal in the 22nd minute. An initial shot by Julianna Boller rebounded off a Raiders defender and back into play, where Ally Goetz was able to send another shot towards goal. Lydia Narum deflected the ball down low and past the goalkeeper for the score. Salisbury doubled its lead right before halftime when Dakota Campbell sent a through ball to Julie Venere, who found an open look and placed her shot out of reach of the Raiders’ goalkeeper. The lead then grew to three barely a minute into the second half when Goetz made a brilliant crossover move before sending the ball out wide to Narum. Narum then redirected the ball back in front of the net in time for Goetz to get her foot on the ball and send it into the far side of the net. The maroon and gold topped off its impressive offensive output in the 67th minute when Brooke Rossiter crossed the ball to teammate Alyssa Chesney positioned at the left side of the box. Chesney spun past her defender and sent the ball inside the near post. The Sea Gulls were able to secure the 4-1 victory as their record moves to 3-4-1. They return to action this Saturday, September 22 when they host St. John Fisher College. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
