YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams competed against York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon, as the women won 114.5-90.5 and the men fell 120-85.
The women's team earned seven first-place finishes during the meet in a winning effort for the Sea Gulls, starting off the meet by claiming the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 4:19.39, as freshman Bizu Baldinazzo and sophomores Maggie Deering, Victoria Radcliffe and Nicole Marders each contributed to the win.
Sophomore Layne Gable touched the wall at 2:06.96, capturing the win in the 200-yard freestyle while finishing more than second ahead of freshman Bailey Wilson, whotied for second, with a time of 2:07.80.
In the 200-yard individual medley, Radcliffe notched a first-place finish in a time of 2:18.07, almost four seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Radcliffe's third win of the meet came in the 100-yard breaststroke, earning a 1:14.91 finish.
Marders also had another win, this time in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in a time of 1:01.76 and falling less than a second short of a school record. Gable finished behind her in second, with a time of 1:04.01.
The women continued their success in the 100-yard freestyle, with Baldinazzo notching first place, in a time of 56.69.
The final win of the day for the women came in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Junior Nicki Schult, senior Melissa Alessandrini, sophomore Claudia Guay and Marders competed together in the event, taking first in a time 3:57.75.
Although the men's squad did not pull out the win, they competed hard against the Spartans, notching four first-place finishes on the day.
Sophomore Okan Eyigor continued his winning ways in the meet, as he was a part of three of those first-place finishes, tallying two individual wins and a relay win. Eyigor's first win of the day came in the 200-yard freestyle where he touched the wall at 1:49.57, recording nine points.
Eyigor shined again in the 100-yard backstroke, taking the win in 53.80 seconds and collecting nine points. Eyigor, along with senior Rich Ambrose and juniors Jake Blazer and Will Gough, also captured 11 points and a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay, recording a time of 3:20.91.
Senior Daniel Keller earned the fourth win of the day for the men, recording a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in 54.79 seconds.
The Sea Gulls will be back at home on Wednesday, November 5 when they will compete against Washington (Md.) College. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m.
