Three more records broken on day two of swimming championships

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams continued to compete at the Capital Athletic Conference championships on Friday at St. Mary's College of Maryland. By the time the final events had finished in the evening, three school records were broken and one conference title was claimed.

Men

Josh Brown claimed the first victory of the weekend for Salisbury. He finished in first place in the 50-yard freestyle preliminary, touching the wall in a time of 20.83 seconds. Brown later secured the gold medal with a time of 20.94 seconds in the finals.

In the time trials, Jeff Roman set a school record in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 27.20 seconds.

After placing sixth in the 500-yard freestyle preliminary with a time of 4:49.85, Peter Moyer bumped up two spots in the finals, finishing in fourth place with a time of 4:41.16.

Jake Ryan finished in third place in the 200-yard individual medley preliminary, clocking a time of 1:58.12, and ended up in fifth place in the finals after recording a time of 1:58.03.

Kyle Russell also placed in the 200-yard individual medley preliminary by finishing in a time of 2:02.28, which was good for eighth place. He then held that spot in the finals, finishing eighth in the conference with a time of 2:01.91.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Ryan, Andrew WardRichard Baker, and Brown finished in third place with a time of 1:25.92.

Women

Natalie Eakin set a school record in the 50-yard freestyle preliminary while also qualifying for the finals with a time of 24.87 seconds, good for eighth place. She held that spot for an eighth place finish in the finals with a time of 25.05 seconds.

In the time trials, Jordan DeGruchy set a school record in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 28.63 seconds.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Maggie GiggeyJordyn RoweChase McClure, and Eakin finished in fifth place with a time of 1:45.66.

Preliminary events start back up Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
