Swimming championships conclude with men third, women fifth

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams concluded the Capital Athletic Conference championships on Sunday at St. Mary's College of Maryland, with three more records being broken. The men finished third while the women finished fifth.

Men

Josh Brown set the school and then-conference record in the 100-yard individual medley preliminary with a time of 52.27 seconds, which earned him the top spot. In the finals, Brown improved that time, once again setting a new school record with a time of 52.06 seconds, which gave him a second-place finish.

Richard Baker qualified for the 100-yard freestyle finals after placing sixth in the preliminaries with a time of 47.20 seconds. Baker moved up one spot in the finals, finishing in fifth place with a time of 47.17 seconds.

Both Kyle Russell and Jeff Roman qualified for the finals in the 200-yard breaststroke. Russell placed third in the preliminaries with a time of 2:09.83 while Roman placed eighth with a time of 2:22.72. Russell finished fifth in the finals with a time of 2:10.62 and Roman was just behind in sixth with a time of 2:17.14.

Jake Ryan posted a time of 1:56.45 in the 200-yard butterfly preliminaries, giving him a fourth-place finish to qualify for the finals. In the finals, Ryan placed fifth with a time of 1:57.48.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Brown, Ryan, Peter Moyer, and Baker broke the school record, finishing in a time of 3:08.75.

Women

Natalie Eakin qualified for the finals in the 100-yard individual medley, recording a time of 1:03.77 in the preliminaries to capture the eighth spot. Eakin moved up one spot in the finals, finishing in a time of 1:03.24 for seventh place.

Jordan DeGruchy placed sixth in the 200-yard butterfly preliminaries, touching the wall in a time of 2:18.46. DeGruchy held that spot in the finals, finishing in sixth place with a time of 2:18.22.

Autumn Allen set the school record in the 50-yard breaststroke time trials, posting a time of 33.07 seconds.

The team of Eakin, DeGruchy, Jordyn Rowe, and Chase McClure finished fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay, recording a time of 3:49.53.
