SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team traveled to Swarthmore, Pa. on Sunday, April 11 to square off against Wilkes College, coming away with a resounding 8-1 victory. The Sea Gulls swept the doubles competition and nearly swept singles play, with their only loss going to three sets.
Salisbury's doubles teams dominated the competition in all three matches: senior Jackie Burr (Dover, Del.) and freshman Jillian Poppe (Califon, N.J.) took an 8-5 victory in the No. 1 spot, senior Kelly Fahrner (Germantown, Md.) and senior Rachel Iosue (Damascus, Md.) won 8-1 in the No. 2 spot, and the duo of freshman Elaina Iosue (Damascus, Md.) and junior Angela Tenaglia (Clarksville, Md.) shut out Wilkes as they won the No. 3 doubles match 8-0.
The Sea Gulls also won their matches in the No. 1 and 2 singles spots, with Burr and Rachel Iosue winning their contests by matching scores of 6-2, 6-1. Salisbury also saw wins from Poppe, Tenaglia and Elaina Iosue in the No. 4, 5 and 6 matches.
The win improves the maroon and gold's record to 11-2, 4-1 Capital Athletic Conference. Salisbury will close out the regular-season with a conference match-up against Wesley College, on the road, on Thursday, April 15 at 3 p.m.
