Women's tennis claims 8-1 win at Occidental

LOS ANGELES – The Salisbury University women's tennis team rolled to an 8-1 win at Occidental College on Wednesday night.

The teams split the three doubles matches, with Salisbury (3-5) taking a slim 2-1 lead heading to singles play. Freshmen Annika Kezman and Julia Kwedi collected an 8-3 win at the top singles spot while senior Claudia Lohn and freshman Jordan Schaefer won 8-5 at No. 2.

Junior Sage Cole and sophomore Taylor Cooper dropped their match at No. 3 doubles, 8-4, marking the only point for the Tigers (1-8) on the day.

The Sea Gulls swept the six singles matches, with every point for the team going in straight sets. Cooper collected a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 while Kezman, at No. 1, and Kwedi, at No. 2, each won 6-1, 6-4.

Lohn earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3 while Schaefer won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 and Cole closed out the scoring with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6.

The Sea Gulls close their trip to California on Thursday afternoon, traveling to Whittier College for a contest slated to begin at 5 p.m., eastern time.
