CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 7-2 win at Washington (Md.) College on Thursday afternoon.
Salisbury collected two points in the three doubles match to begin the day. Junior Sage Cole and sophomore Taylor Cooper opened things up with an 8-2 win at No. 3 before freshmen Annika Kezman and Julia Kwedi took an 8-3 loss at No. 1.
The teams split the first two singles matches of the afternoon with Lohn winning after dropping the first set 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 and the Shorewomen (7-5) got their second point when Rachel Martinez topped Kwedi at No. 2 singles by a 7-5, 6-4 score.
It would be the final point of the day for Washington as Salisbury ran off the final four singles matches to earn the victory, beginning with Cooper's 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 while Kezman earned another three-set win for the Sea Gulls at No. 1 with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 win.
Sophomore Shannon Hickman collected a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 and Schaefer picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5 to seal the 10th victory of the season for Salisbury.
The Sea Gulls now head to Capital Athletic Conference tournament play next week. Salisbury, as the No. 3 seed in the field, has earned a first-round bye and will head to second-seeded Christopher Newport University on Wednesday, April 19.
