Women's tennis earns rained out victory in California finale

FULLERTON, Calif. – Rain caused the Salisbury University women's tennis team's final match of its trip to California to not be finished, but the Sea Gulls were able to claim a victory at Hope International University on Wednesday due a lack of a sufficient number of players for the Royals.

Salisbury (8-3) won the only match that was completed, an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles, for junior Taylor Cooper and freshman Ariana Leggio.

Hope International (0-11) had just three players able to take the courts, but Salisbury was ahead in the first set of all three singles matches at the time the contest was halted, with senior Sage Cole leading 3-0 at No. 3, while junior Shannon Hickman held a 2-1 lead at No. 1, and Leggio was ahead 3-1 at No. 2.

The Sea Gulls are back in action on Friday, March 30 when they host matches against both Washington (Md.) College and St. Mary's College of Maryland. Those contests are slated to begin at 12 p.m., and 4 p.m., respectively.
