YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly volleyball awards on Monday and Salisbury University senior Kelly Vieira was named the league's Co-Player of the Week, along with York (Pa.) College's Ashley Rineman.
Vieira led No. 23 Salisbury (18-1, 2-0 CAC) to five wins this week, including a CAC victory at St. Mary's (Md.) College and a come-from-behind, five-set win at No. 15 Juniata College. Salisbury won the Juniata Invitational, and Vieira was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
During the five matches this week, Vieira hit at a .267 clip, with 35 kills, 54 digs and 11 blocks. In the win against Juniata, Vieira matched career highs with 14 kills and 19 digs.
This is the second time this season that a Sea Gull has been honored by the CAC, as classmate Carley Todd was named Player of the Week on Sept. 3.
Salisbury will be back in action this Wednesday, traveling to the University of Mary Washington. That match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
