Sea Gulls match program-best mark, up to No. 20 in AVCA poll
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Salisbury University volleyball team has matched a program best, tying its highest ranking in program history, as the American Volleyball Coaches Association released this week's Top 25 Coaches Poll and the Sea Gulls have moved up to No. 20.
Salisbury previously reached that mark late in the 2008 season.
Salisbury (18-1) moved up from No. 23 last week, with five wins, including a five-set, come-from-behind victory against then-No. 15 Juniata College. The Eagles dropped to a tie for No. 21 this week.
The Sea Gulls, who received 147 points in this week's poll, have their sights set on Eastern University, which sits one spot ahead, at No. 19, with 158 points.
The poll's top-five teams remained unchanged with Washington University in St. Louis at the No. 1 spot with 598 points and 23 first-place votes. Calvin College (574 points), Wittenberg University (546), Hope College (515, one first-place vote) and Christopher Newport University (498) held their positions in the top-five places.
Salisbury returns to action on Wednesday night when the Sea Gulls travel to the University of Mary Washington at 7 p.m.
