Volleyball climbs to new record high in AVCA poll, ranked No. 18

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Salisbury University volleyball team has hit new heights as the American Volleyball Coaches Association released its top 25 coaches' poll on Tuesday and the Sea Gulls climbed to No. 18 in the nation, the highest ranking in program history.

Salisbury rose two spots after receiving 177 points in the poll this week, just behind No. 17 Pacific Lutheran University, which has 224 points.

The Sea Gulls won three matches this past week, including 3-0 victories against the University of Mary Washington and Rivier University. Salisbury also took down Virginia Wesleyan College, 3-2.

The top five in the poll remains unchanged with Washington University in St. Louis at the No. 1 spot with 600 points and all 24 first-place votes. Calvin College (573 points), Wittenberg University (548), Hope College (500) and Christopher Newport University (498) held their positions in the top-five places.

Salisbury is off until Wednesday, Oct. 10, when the Sea Gulls will host Johns Hopkins University at Maggs Physical Activities Center; that match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
