Volleyball tops Marymount

The Salisbury University volleyball team defeated visiting Marymount University 3-0 on Friday night in a crucial CAC matchup. With the victory the Sea Gulls now move into a tie for second place in the CAC with Marymount, holding the ever important tiebreaker over the Saints. The Sea Gulls used a mix of timely offense and solid defense to control the match and claim the victory. Sophomore Nicole Venturelli totaled both a team-high and match-high 10 kills on the night. Senior Katie Stouffer finished second on the team with eight kills of her own. Junior Sydney Davis was all over the court finishing the night with six kills and two blocks while posting a hitting percentage of .357 Senior Shannon Russell led the Salisbury defense recording 11 digs while fellow senior Krista Pecenka finished the night with 10 digs of her own and a match best four service aces. Pecenka’s total matched that of Marymount’s team total. Salisbury will host St. Mary’s College of Maryland on October 15 at 2 p.m. in another pivotal match up with playoff implications.
