Salisbury vs Mary Washington
The Salisbury University volleyball team squared off against the University of Mary Washington for the Sea Gulls Senior Day and as part of homecoming 2018. Before the start of the match the team honored its four seniors Gabby Fox, Madison Lim, Nicole Venurelli, and Gianna Savarese. Amanda Chew led the team with 11 kills for the afternoon on another team-high 32 attacks and was the only player to post double-digit kills. She would finish the match with a .219 hitting percentage, four digs, and an assist. Senior Nicole Venturelli hammered on nine kills in the match including a team-best four in the opening set. Venturelli finished the night with a .304 hitting percentage while chipping in with four digs and a block, Hailey Dougherty contributed on both sides of the ball from her Libero position totaling a team-best two service aces while tallying another team-high 12 digs contributing to the team total 36. Carley Cleland turned in a solid performance tallying eight kills on 15 attempts to post a team-best .533 hitting percentage. Cleland was also instrumental on the defensive end posting another team-high five blocks while also adding two digs. The Eagles escaped with a hard fought 3-0 victory over the Sea Gulls to drop the maroon and gold to 12-7 on the year and 1-2 in CAC play. Salisbury returns to action on Wednesday, October 17 when the Sea Gulls host St. Mary's College of Maryland while also hosting the programs' annual Dig Pink match. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
