YORK, Pa. – Salisbury University junior Connor Hesselbirg was honored by the Capital Athletic Conference, being named the league's first Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Hesselbirg led the Sea Gulls to a third-place finish at their season opener, the Salisbury University Fall Classic at Winter Place Park. Salisbury finished only behind Rowan University and Division I Naval Academy.
Hesselbirg ran his fastest time ever on the Winter Place Park course, covering the 8,000 meters in 26:37 to place sixth overall and was the fourth-fastest Division III runner.
The Sea Gulls are off this weekend before returning to action on Saturday, September 19 at the Seahawk Invitational, hosted by St. Mary's College of Maryland.
