Hesselbirg, Schwartz collect CAC cross country awards

YORK, Pa. – After a successful run in the Salisbury University Fall Classic on Saturday, the Salisbury University men's and women's cross country teams were honored with both the men's and women's Athlete of the Week awards by the Capital Athletic Conference.

Senior Connor Hesselbirg won the honor on the men's side while junior Alison Schwartz picked up the accolade for the women.

Hesselbirg led the men to the meet title, as he finished the Winter Place Park course in 26:04 to take third place overall. The Salisbury men scored 25 points to win the title by 30 points over Division I U.S. Naval Academy.

Schwartz finished third on the women's side, crossing the finish line on the 6,000-meter course in 23:18. Her efforts helped the Sea Gulls to a second-place finish.

The teams are off this weekend, before returning to action at the Bill Fritz/Charlie Way Invitational in Glassboro, New Jersey next Saturday, September 17. That event is scheduled to commence at 11 a.m.
