SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 28th Annual Don Cathcart Invitational on Saturday morning. The women's cross country team placed second while the men's cross country team finished first.
Abby Porter, Jamie Farley, and Alison Schwartz paced Salisbury earning top-10 finishes. Porter was the first Sea Gull to cross the finish line posting a time of 23:23.06 to finish seventh. Farley and Schwartz finished six seconds apart with times of 23:30.33 and 23:36.07 to earn ninth and 10th respectively.
Fiona Halloran and Jill Ciritella rounded out the top 15 finishing in 12th and 14th respectively. Halloran finished with a time of 23:45.61, averaging 6:22.4 per mile. Meanwhile, Ciritella finished four seconds behind her teammate posting a time of 23:49.21.
Carly Sniffen and Christine Sturm rounded out the top-seven finishers for Salisbury placing 18th and 19th. Sniffen crossed the finish line with a time of 24:04.50 while Strum finished just four seconds behind Sniffen with a time of 24:08.63.
Five Salisbury runners finished in the top 10 to help the Sea Gulls earn the victory. Freshman Branson Oduor finished first among all runners posting a time of 25:48.74, while averaging a mile time of 5:11.6.
Billy Kirk, Connor Hesselbirg, Conner Masteran, and Malcolm Milton all finished in respective order to round out the Sea Gulls in the top 10. Kirk finished with a time of 25:57.01 to place fifth. Meanwhile Hesselbirg, Masteran, and Milton all finished within 31 second of each other placing sixth, seventh, and eighth respectively. Hesselbirg posted a time of 26:03.02, while Masteran finished at 26:28.73, and Milton rounded out the group with a time of 26:34.49
Dylan Smiley and Dan Stretz rounded out the top-20 finishers for Salisbury placing 12th and 16th. Smiley crossed the finish line at 26:43.55 while Stretz finished just 17 seconds later with a time of 27:00.29.
The Sea Gulls will compete next in the DeSales Invitational on October 8 at 10 a.m.
