Cross Country finishes third at CAC Championships

HERSHEY, Pa. – The men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Penn State University-Harrisburg on Saturday. The men and women's team shared a similar result both placing third out of nine teams.

Men

The men finished the 8,000-meter race with a total of 86 points and an average time of 27:24.2. Senior Connor Hesselbirg led all Sea Gull runners finishing 11th with a time of 26:52.6, earning his second straight second team All-CAC honor.

Malcolm Milton finished eight places behind his teammate coming in 19th place crossing the finish line with a time of 27:17.7. Billy Kirk finished just seconds after Milton placing 24th and posting a time of 27:28.7. Freshman Michael Weber rounded out Salisbury's top-25 finishers with a time of 27:30.2, placing 25th.

Conner Masteran finished just behind Weber in 26th place, with a time of 27:37.7. Freshman Branson Oduor was the sixth Salisbury runner to cross the finish line, posting a time of 27:44.5 for 29th place, while Dylan Smiley crossed the finish line just five seconds later to place 30th, rounding out the Sea Gulls' top-seven runners.

Christopher Newport captured its second consecutive title with all top seven runners placing in the top 10 including taking places one through four. The Captains totaled 16 points and averaged a time of 26:22.5 to capture the championship. York College (Pa.) took second with 53 points overall and two runners finishing in the top 10.

Women

The women finished the morning with 67 total points to finish behind both York and Christopher Newport. Alison Schwartz was the only Salisbury runner to finish in the top 10 coming in fourth and posting a time of 24:01.0.

Jamie Farley finished just outside the top 10, coming in 12th place crossing the finish line with a time of 24:42.0.

Both Abby Potter and Jill Ciritella finished five seconds apart, placing 15th and 16th, respectively. Potter posted a time of 25:00.7 while Ciritella finished in a time of 25:05.1. Teammate Fiona Halloran rounded out the top 20 finishers for Sea Gulls placing 20th and crossing the finish line in a time of 25:23.3.

Jessica Lane and Christine Sturm were the second pair of Salisbury runners to finish one place apart from each other finishing 24th and 25th, respectively. Lane ended the race in a time of 25:30.4 while Sturm posted a time of 25:36.3.

York captured its first CAC Championship in program history, finishing with 31 points. Christopher Newport finished just two points back of the Spartans placing second and totaling 33 points for the day.

The Sea Gulls will now turn their attention to the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championship November 12 at DeSales University. The race is slated to begin at 11 a.m. in Center Valley, Pennsylvania.
