The Sea Gull Sports Network launched in January 2011. The intent was to bring the games, teams and student-athletes of Salisbury University closer to the fans.
SGSN began with live webcasts of on-campus events, the first of which was a men's and women's basketball doubleheader between the Sea Gulls and York (Pa.) College. During the first semester, 16 Salisbury varsity events were webcast. During the 2011-12 school year the number of live webcasts grew to 106, while introducing game highlights and an original series, Squawk Talk, to the University's atheltics website, www.suseagulls.com.
Squawk Talk is a produced studio show, which features stories about major events in Salisbury University athletics, and brings fans behind the scenes, getting to know the teams, coaches, and student-athletes.
In 2012-13, the Sea Gull Sports Network began a partnership with Stretch Internet, improving the quality of Salisbury's webcasts. SGSN brought 140 live events to fans around the world during the year and began the third season of Squawk Talk, introducing a new feature, the Sea Gull Spotlight, getting to know a different student-athlete a little better each week.
In 2014-15, the Sea Gull Sports Network will again improve its product the fans, with high-definition webcasts for select events where the internet connection allows for the ability to do so. With the new year also comes the SGSN Game of the Week, with enhanced graphics and pregame shows.
The 2016-17 year brought change for the SGSN network with the addition of a Tri-Caster system in Sea Gull Stadium and new video replay board. It also brought the addition of multi-camera broadcasts offering different perspectives and views for viewers and fans. With the new year also came longer and more indepth pregame shows, enhanced graphics for both pregame and ingame use, and the introduction of the broadcasters on screen to welcome the viewers into the broadcast itself.
The Sea Gull Sports Network is overseen by the Sports Information office, but is primarily a student-run organization, coordinated by Assistant Director of Sports Information Justin Farrell, a 2013 graduate of Dickinson College. Some 20-plus students make up the talented staff that brings games to the fans throughout the year.
