Swimming earns 13 first-place finishes at Frostburg

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams finished off their weekend road trip on Saturday afternoon when they traveled to Frostburg State University. The men's team defeated the Bobcats, 172-90, while the women's team fell, 175-87. Both teams combined for 13 first-place finishes a day after sweeping their meets at Penn State University-Altoona.

Men

The men's team began the day strong by capturing the two best times in its first event, the 200-meter medley relay. Richard Baker, Kyle Russell, Josh Brown, and Jarrod Schwesinger combined to finish in first with a time of 1:55.01. Andrew Ward, Ben Gardner, Keaton Burke, and Stephen Arcidiacono finished just behind, with a time of 2:00:49.

Peter Moyer led the way with three individual victories. His first win came in the 200-meter freestyle, with a time of 2:02.04. Moyer followed it up, recording times of 55.65 seconds in the 100-meter freestyle, and 4:24.65 in the 400-meter freestyle. He finished his day as part of a 400-meter freestyle relay team—including Baker, Brown, and Schwesinger—that finished first with a time of 3:45.87.

Baker and Brown each collected two individual first-place finishes. Baker finished first in the 100-meter backstroke, with a time of 1:03.06, and the 200-meter backstroke, in 2:19.84. Brown finished first in the 50-meter freestyle, at 24.28 seconds, and the 100-meter butterfly, with a time of 1:01.17.

Arcidiacono and Bill James each tallied first-place finishes as well. Arcidiacono got his in the 200-meter butterfly, with a time of 2:30.36. James finish ahead of the pack in the 800-meter freestyle, with a time of 9:34.64.

Women

Emma Tarnosky captured each of the women's first-place finishes on the afternoon. Tarnosky's first victory came in the 100-meter breaststroke, with a time of 1:10.69. She finished her afternoon with a win in the 200-meter backstroke, recording a time of 2:33.98.

Jordyn Rowe and Olivia Edsall each earned two second-place finishes to help the team. Rowe finished second in the 50-meter freestyle, at 30.57 seconds, and the 200-meter individual medley, with a time of 2:46.95. Edsall finished second in the 100-meter breaststroke, recording a time of 1:27.93, and the 200-meter breaststroke, with a time of 3:10.62.

Shelby Steere and Angela Barzanti also had second-place times, with Steere recording a time of 1:13.16 in the 100-meter backstroke, and Barzanti finishing with a time of 5:04.81 in the 400-meter freestyle.

The teams will travel to Washington (Md.) College for their next meet on Wednesday, November 8. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
