Swimming teams earn road victories over Marlins

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The men's and women's swimming teams traveled south to Virginia Wesleyan University on Friday afternoon to take on the Marlins. Both teams collected victories, with the men winning, 118-57, and the women, 108-51.

Men

The men's team collected a total of eight first-place finishes on the evening. It started off strong, winning its opening event—the 200-yard medley relay. Kyle Russell, Peter Moyer, Josh Brown, and Matt Morris combined to finish with a time of 1:46.50.

Bill James earned two individual first-place finishes. His first was in the 1,000-yard freestyle, with a time of 11:12.69. James' other win came in the 100-yard backstroke, with a time of 1:01.10.

Richard Baker finished up a strong week with two more individual first-place finishes. Baker collected a time of 22.30 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle, then followed it up with a time of 48.58 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle.

Andrew Ward, Stephen Arcidiacono, and Brown each earned individual first-place finishes. Ward's came in the 200-yard freestyle, with a time of 1:53.30. Arcidiacono earned his in the 100-yard butterfly, with a time of 57.31 seconds. Brown recorded a time of 54.69 seconds in the 100-yard individual medley event.

Women

The women's team collected seven total victories against the Marlins, with its first victory also coming in the 200-yard medley relay. Emma Tarnosky, Jordyn Rowe, Angela Barzanti, and Maddie Snow combined to finish with a time of 2:02.89.

Ali Johnston led the women with two individual first-place finishes. Johnston earned top honors in the 100-yard individual medley, with a time of 1:11.00, then two events later finished with a first-place time in the 100-yard butterfly, with a time of 1:18.72.

Brie Clark, Shelby Steere, Barzanti, and Rowe each collected an individual first-place finish. Clark's came in the 200-yard freestyle, with a time of 2:22.12. Steere earned her first-place time in the 100-yard freestyle, with a time of 1:02.72. Barzanti finished first in the 1,000-yard freestyle, with a time of 11:56.35. Lastly, Rowe's finish came in the 50-yard freestyle, with a time of 26.61 seconds.

The teams will return to action after the holidays when they return home to host McDaniel College on Saturday, January 6. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
