Men's, women's swimming top Virginia Wesleyan

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams hosted Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon, with the men earning a 126-63 win and the women picking up a 123-80 victory.

Men

The men started the day with a victory in the 200-meter medley relay. The team of Andrew Ward, Jeff Roman, Jake Ryan, and Peter Moyer finished with a time of 1:58.07 for first place.

Seven different men earned first-place finishes for Salisbury on the day. Kyle Russell captured the first individual win of the day for the men in the 800-meter freestyle, touching the wall in a time of 9:43.37.

Richard Baker followed up Russell with a first-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1:59.71.

Keaton Burke won the 50-meter backstroke, recording a time of 31.27 seconds.

All four members of the 200-meter medley relay team went on to win four straight events, which started when Roman earned a victory in the 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 31.00 seconds.

Ryan then claimed first place in the 100-meter butterfly, touching the wall in a time of 1:03.17.

Ward finished first in the 50-meter freestyle, coming home in a time of 25.38 seconds, and Moyer capped off the streak by placing first in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 55.18 seconds.

Women

The women began the afternoon with a first-place finish in the 200-meter medley relay, as the team of Natalie Eakin, Autumn Allen, Jordan DeGruchy, and Chase McClure clocked a time of 2:14.75.

Six different women claimed victories for Salisbury, led by Ryane Porter. Porter claimed the first individual victory of the day for the women, finishing the 800-meter freestyle in a time of 10:30.22. Porter later won the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:05.98 for her second victory of the day.

Jordyn Rowe captured a first-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle as she touched the wall in a time of 2:24.13.

Ellen Berry finished first in the 50-meter backstroke with a time of 36.01 seconds.

Allen earned a first-place finish in the 50-meter breaststroke as she finished with a time of 38.67 seconds.

Alice Ricci placed first in the 100-meter butterfly, clocking a time of 1:21.49.

McClure recorded a victory in the 50-meter freestyle in a time of 29.19 seconds.

The Salisbury men's and women's swimming teams are off for nearly a month until they travel to take on McDaniel College on Sunday, January 6 at 1 p.m.
