The Rundown

Looking to build on last season's run to the championship match, the fourth-seeded Salisbury University volleyball team is primed to pursue its ninth conference title at the 2022 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Tournament in Fredericksburg, Va. The Sea Gulls begin their chase against the fifth-seeded Mount Mary Blue Angels on Friday at 11 a.m. at Ron Rosner Arena on the campus of the University of Mary Washington.

  • Salisbury opened the regular season on a 13-1 clip and won four of its final five contests on the way to finishing 18-7.
  • The Sea Gulls faced C2C opponents five times, going 1-4 with a 3-1 victory over Christopher Newport on Oct. 13.
  • In the most recent NCAA Regional Rankings on Oct. 30, SU was slotted in seventh in Region V.
  • Salisbury played 12 matches this season against teams that currently boast regional rankings, going 5-7 with wins against Arcadia, Christopher Newport, DeSales, Rowan and Virginia Wesleyan.
  • Mount Mary went 8-21 and closed out the regular season on a nine-match losing streak.
  • The Blue Angels won their only two games against C2C foes in 2022, sweeping Finlandia on Sept. 9 and Oct. 8.
  • MMU is led up front by junior outside hitter Brianna Ecker, who ranks third in the C2C in kills (316) and fifth in kills per set (3.10) on the way to Second-Team All-C2C recognition. In the back, sophomore defensive specialist Ahlyna Cason slots in fifth in the league in digs (352) and eighth in digs per set (3.59).
  • This is the first-ever meeting between the Sea Gulls and Blue Angels, who are based out of Milwaukee, Wisc.
  • The winner of the SU-MMU matchup will advance to face top-seeded UC Santa Cruz in the semifinals on Friday at 4 p.m., with the semifinal winners meeting in the C2C Championship Match on Saturday at 4 p.m.
  • The loser of the SU-MMU matchup will play in the Fifth Place Match on Saturday at 11 a.m., while the two semifinal losers will play in the Third Place Match at 1:30 p.m.
  • Salisbury is seeking its ninth conference championship and first since 2012, as well as its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2013. The Sea Gulls advanced to the C2C Championship in 2021, falling in five sets to Christopher Newport.
