The Salisbury University women’s soccer team heads across the bridge for the 2023 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Women’s Soccer Championship, hosted by Mary Washington at the Battleground Athletic Complex in Fredericksburg, Va. The team begins their tournament run on Friday, Nov. 3 when they take on UC Santa Cruz at 2 p.m.

The Sea Gulls went 10-6-2 during the regular season, punctuated by a five-game shutout win streak during the heart of the campaign.
Sophomore midfielder Ashley Pantano led the team in offensive production, scoring four goals and two assists. Sophomore Alex Jankowski followed close behind with three goals and a team-high three assists while freshman Ava Wheeler added four goals of her own and an assist.
The defense held strong all regular season, holding opponents to an average of 0.94 goals per game. Some Sea Gull backline members include senior Lauren Spelman and junior Zakiyyah McMillan.
Sophomore Riley Pinato solidified her role in goal, starting and playing in 13 of the 18 games, compiling a 6-5-2 record.
Salisbury took home honors at the end of the regular season as Kristen Ging was named to the All-C2C First Team, while members of the Second Team include Pantano, Spelman, McMillan, and Amanda Commodari.
Salisbury earned the fourth seed in the 2022 C2C Championship, hosted by Christopher Newport in Newport News, Va., after going 8-8-2 in the regular season.
In the quarterfinals, the Sea Gulls defeated the fifth seed Pratt 11-0 at the CNU Soccer Stadium.
The next day in the semifinals, Salisbury fell to top-seeded hosts Christopher Newport 3-1 to end their post-season run.
This is the last time Mary Washington will host the tournament until 2029.
Salisbury has won four championships, with the last time they hoisted the trophy coming in 2011.

The way that I look at the C2C Championships is the opportunity. The opportunity for the team to show how good they really are. The opportunity for them to grow as individuals and as a collective group. The opportunity to make history for our program.
