WASHINGTON, D.C. – The second-ranked Salisbury University baseball team got back to its winning ways with a 10-4 triumph over the Marymount (Va.) Saints on Sunday afternoon at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sea Gulls scratched out the game's first run in the first inning. Luke Weddell worked a one-out walk, then Kavi Caster doubled and Danny Sheeler was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Ben Anderson followed with an RBI fielder's choice to third to score Weddell and make it 1-0.
  • SU tacked on a run each in the fourth and fifth on solo home runs by Jacob Ference and Sheeler that built the lead to 3-0.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, Craig Sodano led off with a homer to get the Saints on the board. Two batters later Ryan Cuadros reached on an error, then after a bunt single and a groundout, Bryce Smith singled into left to bring both runners home and tie the game at 3-3.
  • Salisbury immediately grabbed the lead back in the top of the sixth. Weddell and Caster were both hit with two out, then Sheeler roped a two-run double into left to put the Sea Gulls back up 5-3.
  • In the eighth, Cameron Hyder and Weddell strung together back-to-back one-out singles, then Caster tripled them both home to boost the SU lead to 7-3.
  • The Sea Gulls tacked on three more in the top of the ninth on a two-run single by Scott Cameron and a Hyder sac fly to make it 10-3.
  • The Saints added one final tally in the bottom of the ninth as Ryo Fabre scored on a Chad Singleton RBI groundout, giving the game its final 10-4 margin.
