Men's Tennis falls in C2C Semifinals against UC-Santa Cruz

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The fourth-seeded Salisbury University men's tennis team battled in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Semifinals against the top-seed UC-Santa Cruz Banana Slugs but fell, 5-3, on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Salisbury got off to a great start in the doubles matches.
  • Gianluca Beaujon and Jhayden Pappas took down Andrew Tjoa and Lucas Chen, the 14th-ranked team in the West region, 8-3, in first doubles.
  • Christopher Catan and Mitchell Desman also collected a doubles win, 8-6, in second doubles over Sam Hall and Andre Mardirossian.
  • The third doubles team of Aron Bursztyn and Russell Willenborg fought hard in third doubles but dropped an 8-6 decision to Ryan Lam and Praneet Varade.
  • Bursztyn bounced back from the doubles loss with a 6-4, 6-2 win in fourth singles over Varade.
  • The rest of the singles matches didn't go in Salisbury's way with UC-Santa Cruz clinching the match in fifth singles with a 7-5, 7-5 victory by Tjoa over Catan.
UP NEXT
  • Salisbury will await a potential Pool B or at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.
  • The selections will be released on Monday, May 1.
