No. 1 Softball bests LVC, 3-1, to open Super Regionals

SALISBURY, Md. – The top-ranked Salisbury University softball team took the opening game, 3-1, over Lebanon Valley Dutchmen on Friday in the best-of-three NCAA Super Regionals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Salisbury loaded the bases in the bottom half of the first. Jordan Walter forced Lauren Meyers and Emily Stockman to ground out to end the Salisbury threat with no runs across.
  • Lebanon Valley got a runner to scoring position in both the second and third innings but Lindsey Windsor ended the LVC scoring chance with strikeouts to keep the game scoreless.
  • Megan Heard scored the opening run of the Super Regionals in the fourth inning. A sinking line drive to center field got past a diving Abby Mace and all the way to the wall for an inside-the-park home run.
  • Salisbury tied the game in the bottom half of the fourth. Emily Stockman led off the inning with a single to left followed by a sacrifice bunt by Sam Flowers that moved Lexie Delcollo, who pinch-ran for Stockman, to second base. Natalie Paoli followed with a double that skipped over the third-base bag to score Delcollo from second.
  • After a leadoff double in the fifth by Carrie Jacoby and Taylor Scott came to pinch run, Stockman drove Scott in with an RBI single to center to allow Salisbury to take the 2-1 lead.
  • The Sea Gulls added insurance in the bottom of the sixth inning. Windsor roped a triple to right center and Jacoby followed with an RBI single to left center to put Salisbury up 3-1.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Salisbury recorded 11 hits.
  • Carrie Jacoby paced the offense with three hits, including a pair of doubles, and an RBI.
