Men’s Swimming rolls in return to pool with 187-72 win over St. Mary’s (Md.)

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's swim team showed no rust after the long holiday break with a 187-72 victory over the St. Mary's Seahawks on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The day was highlighted by Christopher Knorr's record-breaking performance in the 50 fly. Knorr touched the wall in 23.30 seconds, besting the previous mark of 23.54 seconds set by Jake Ryan in the 2019 Capital Athletic Conference Championships.
Knorr also placed first in the 200 free (1:46.65) and second in the 200 fly (1:56.15).
Dominic Kazzi and Luke Mitchell each earned a pair of golds in SU's win. Kazzi recorded first-place times in the 200 breast (2:14.02) and 50 breast (27.21). Mitchell placed first in the 400 IM (4:21.15) and 50 back (24.62).
Shane Hall picked up a win in the 100 free with a time of 48.64 seconds. Michael DeSimone (49.64) and Matt Merke (49.65) placed second and third respectively in the 100 free.
Matthew Arter collected the victory in the 1,650 free, clocking in at 16:51.07. David Gardner (17:00.52) and Nigel Cacho (18:17.57) rounded out the podium.
Arter (1:56.92) and Mitchell (1:59.53) followed Robert Krause's time of 1:56.09 in the 200 back.
The Sea Gulls tallied firsts in each of the relays. The team of Kazzi, Knorr, DeSimone and Mark Dattilio narrowly defeated Mitchell, Justin Byrd, Brady Wolf and Kyle Skelly in the 400-medley relay. Knorr, Kazzi, DeSimone and Byrd picked up the golf in the 200 free relay.

UP NEXT

Salisbury will continue in-state with a double dual against Division I UMBC and Division II Frostburg St. on Saturday, Jan. 20.
The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. at UMBC.
