Men’s Swimming closes out regular season with a win over Catholic

Washington, D.C. – The Salisbury University men's swimming team took down the Catholic University Cardinals, 175-87, Saturday afternoon at the DuFour Center Pool to finish the regular dual meet season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Salisbury University men opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay courtesy of Lucas Mitchell, Dominic Kazzi, Owen Brewer, and Michael DeSimone, who finished the event in 1:36.48.
  • In the 200-yard butterfly, Christopher Knorr and Justin Byrd took the top two steps of the podium for the Sea Gulls. Taking the top step was Knorr with a time of 1:59.27 while Byrd finished second with a 2:00.95.
  • The 50-yard freestyle saw the Sea Gulls control the podium as DeSimone finished first with a time of 21.30 and Mark Dattilio took second with a time of 21.79.
  • Salisbury earned the top of the podium in the 100-yard freestyle as teammates battle for first. Dattilio took first with a time of 48.82 while Knorr was right behind him with a 48.96.
  • A sweep of the podium was in store for the Sea Gulls in the 200-yard backstroke. Matthew Arter finished first with a 1:57.29 while Mitchell finished just four-tenths of a second behind him. Taking third was Daniel Grigoryev with a time of 1:58.65.
  • Matt Merke took home the win in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:48.57 while Arter picked up a third-place finish with a 4:59.65.
  • Salisbury ended the meet by taking the win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of DeSimone, Dattilio, Knorr, and Brewer earned the win with a time of 3:14.19, beating second place by nearly two-tenths of a second.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls are back in the pool on Thursday, Feb. 15, for the first day of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships.
  • The NJAC Championships will take place from Feb. 15 through Feb. 18 at the University of Maryland Natatorium in College Park, Md.
